Someone must be really concerned that the YBIA Office gets too dirty, because every couple of days we get a call by some cleaning company offering their services to us. But actually we know pretty good how to keep clean. So we’re not really interested in those calls …
… But yesterday everything changed! Nothing was the same anymore! The Gum Fighters called! And changed all our lives!!! Because we found this video! Have a look and let the Gum Fighters come into your life!
The first Illuminate Yaletown finally took place last Saturday and it was a huge success! The BIA staff thinks that approximately 30,000 people have been attending the event throughout the evening. Can you believe that? I can’t! Thanks for joining us and making this night unforgettable! And if you haven’t been able to come around here’s a video I just found on youtuve that gives you a pretty good impression of what our event was like! Check it out!

Today I experienced another time that browsing the Internet always affords surprises. I just discovered that Yaletown’s going to be a location for a photography group’s photo shoot. This will be February 21st when astonishing light art will illuminate Yaletown. I can just say that this date is a really good choice to get a picture of Yaletown. See how the Internet connects, brings together and leads people to come to Yaletown! Why don’t you join us on this day as well?

Hey guys, my name is Laura, I’m from Germany and at the moment I’m interning at the YBIA. As part of my entry into the YBIA I was told about the history of Yaletown and of course I would like you to share this experience with me.
Unbelievable for a German intern but true: as nearly whole Vancouver also Yaletown was shaped through the Canadian Pacific Railway. And also unbelievable for a German all that just took place about 120 years ago.
Now try to create a picture of Yaletown in your head. You see quadratic buildings with the high ceilings and huge doors and windows? Now they’re a perfect location for cool one-of-a-kind boutiques but before they used to be rail buildings and warehouses. Makes sense, doesn’t it? And think of the cool wide sidewalks that give a lot of space for all the fancy restaurants or the frequent outdoor events. They used to be the loading platforms for the trains. Or do you know why all the buildings in Yaletown have entrances at both sides? Yes, one to get the wares in from the trains and one to give them away to the merchants.
So think about how Yaletown would look like without the Canadian Pacific Railway. I guess quite boring. Thanks to the competitive relationship between Canada and the United States (and Canada won of course…) Vancouver has this cool and fancy neighborhood, which also offers a still visible and fascinating history.
Everything has to come to an end and so does also the Christmas time. As the snow is finally melting and letting Vancouver’s citizens realize that they’re actually not living with Santa Claus at the north pole the YBIA workers decided that it’s time to say goodbye to the Christmas decoration.
So bring down the house for us breaking down the (gingerbread) house!
this is a funny video of Yaletown stereotypes, and some so-bad-its-good dancing and singing.
i thought at first this was an interesting little bit of stone water sculpture on the beach in yaletown. It reminds me of stonehenge, and shows that the beachfront had some design thought put into it. Tthen i found out that the structure out in the water to the left, is actually a giant floating laser pen, that moves with the currents and draws. its called ‘brush deluxe’ and its purpose is to invent a new language. zow
